Roger Lugg

Roger Lugg

Roger began his training in the City at Thorne, Lancaster & Co and from there moved on to work for Coopers & Lybrand (now PWC). His work for Coopers took him to Uganda, where he also spent some time playing International rugby for the Uganda national team. This was followed by another two years in Cape Town working for Deloittes.

On his return to England he started work in Croydon with a firm that had been bought out by a London firm, with the instructions to take over from the current partner. Things did not go to plan as the partner became a mentor and firm friend and in 1976 Roger took the decision to set out on his own.

Roger Lugg & Co started from Roger’s house in Caterham, with his wife as secretary and payroll assistant. A number of clients followed him from his old firm and many are still with the firm to this day. After two years, the firm moved to the current Caterham premises. The Lingfield office was bought in 1986 and the Levy & Co office in 2008.

The firm began to train staff in 1986, partly to help recruitment and partly to train his daughter and family members in the hope they would take over from him one day. Roger’s niece and daughter are amongst 18 staff who have qualified with the firm over the years, an achievement of which he is rightly proud.

Roger now lives in Hurst Green, with his wife Rosie (known to many of us as Chuck). Whilst he is semi-retired, he continues to provide the firm with invaluable advice and support. In his spare time he works tirelessly for the local church in his new role as church warden. He is an adept gardener and he swims daily to keep fit.
